Alcohol

Assalam o alaikum
I have a question regarding the open sale of alcohol at Dubai / Doha / Abudhabi airports and in flight serving of alcohol when the plane is flying above a muslim country airspace.
When the ayah for prohibition was revealed in sura maida the sahaba RA spilled all the wine they possessed. Even spat the one they had swallowed. A few companions came to the Prophet SAW asking what they should do about the alcohol that they had but it was the property of some orphans. They were ordered that that alcohol should also be wasted.
My question is:
Is it allowed for a Muslim to destroy the wine that is being served in the flight or that is being sold in the airports of Muslim lands?

Answer

Wa Alaykum Salaam.

These Alcoholic drinks are clearly Haraam.

However the Shariah does not allow the ordinary citizen to take matters into his own hands. If this was allowed, it could lead to chaos and disorder.

It is the duty of the Government to police and prohibit these wrongful acts. If they fail to do so, as they presently do, the sin will lie with them and not the ordinary citizen.

Therefore you are not allowed to destroy these items.
