Art as an exam subject

Aslm Please advise regarding the following: A muslim school offers art as an examination subject. Learners have to draw pictures/caricatures as well as portraits of human beings. Some learners are doing art at matric level. How do they continue? Shukran

Assalaamu alaykum

It is not permissible for the “Muslim” school to offer the subject knowing what it entails.

They should simply refuse to continue. Whatever difficulties may ensue are insignificant to the Curse of Allah Ta’ala that descends upon picture-makers. The learners have to decide between Dunya and Aakhirah. If it means delaying their obtaining their Matric certificate, then so be it.
