Can a person discharge zakaat, lillah, sadaqah by distributing food stuffs eg can food etc.

Asslaamu alaykum
It is permissible to pay Zakaat in kind (goods / items). However, this should not be used as a means of getting rid of unwanted items or goods. Give such goods or items which can properly be used by the poor and needy.
