Dua

Assalaamu alaikumCan mufti saheb please explain where I can find this duaa, the meaning and the story behind it:“Yaa rabbil lakal hamdu kama yanbaghii lijalaali wajhika, wa’aziimi sultaanik.”

I would like to give it to some people and need a kitab as a reference.

39408- عن أبان المكتب : أن عبد الله بن عمر كان يدفن أهله فى مكان فكان إذا شهد جنازة مر على أهله فدعا لهم واستغفر لهم (ابن أبى الدنيا البيهقى فى شعب الإيمان)[كنز العمال 42994 ]

أخرجه البيهقى فى شعب الإيمان (7/17 ، رقم 9296)

39409- إن عبدا من عباد الله قال يارب لك الحمد كما ينبغى لجلال وجهك ولعظيم سلطانك فأعضلت بالملكين فلم يدريا كيف يكتبانها فصعدا إلى السماء فقالا يا ربنا إن عبدك قد قال مقالة لا ندرى كيف نكتبها فقال الله وهو أعلم بما قال عبده ماذا قال عبدى قالا يا رب إنه قال يا رب لك الحمد كما ينبغى لجلال وجهك ولعظيم سلطانك فقال الله لهما اكتباها كما قال عبدى حتى يلقانى عبدى فأجزيه بها (ابن ماجه ، والطبرانى ، والبيهفى فى شعب الإيمان عن ابن عمر) [كنز العمال 6441 ]

(4/94 ، رقم 4387) .

In a Hadith it is reported that once a servant of Allah Ta’ala made this Dua. The angels did not know how to write down this Dua, so they rose to the sky and said: Oh our Rabb, one of your servants has mentioned something which we don’t know how to write.

Allah Ta’ala, although being aware, asked them: What did my servant say. So they repeated the Dua. Allah Ta’ala told them to record it like how the servant has said it, and continue to write it until the servant meets me, for then I will grant him the reward of it.

This Hadith is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah (Hadith no. 3801), At Tarbrani (Hadith no. 13297) and Shu’bul Imaan of Bayhaqi (Hadith no. 4387).
