Ill treatment of a disabled

Ill treatment of a disabled

Assalaamu-Alaikum. Honourable Muftisap. I would like to seek your advice regarding my daughter in law who is in a wheelchair she lost both her legs. Muftisap she has a son who is a minor and she is homeschooling her son and Alhamdulillah Allah has blessed this boy with such good akhlaaq that what he does for his mum I have not seen any child making so much khidmat of their mother. May Allah bless this child. My point is that my daughter in law has her mum and she has a brother her brother does not see to the mums financial needs and they only rely on my daughter in law if and when she cannot do then she is always verbally abused by her mother I feel that it is only fair that her son sees to her needs as my daughter in law is unable to work and whatever my son gives her to use on herself and her son it is being used on her mum. The brother cannot state that he cannot look after his mum coz he drives a luxury car lives in a luxury home and they go 2 the most expensive resorts on holidays and weekends. And for the mother to behave in this manner is shameful. Everytime my daughter in law is made to sign the lease for her mum and always the landlords complain that her mum is always fighting with the domestic worker. Kindly advise us what to do in this matter as it is frustrating not only us but my son is also getting fedup by their attitude. Jazakallah

Answer

Assalaamu alaykum
Respected Sister in Islam,
Your son needs to sit down with his brother-in-law and have man to man talk. He should explain that every son has an Islamic duty to financially support his mother. If someone else has a good influence over the son (your daughter-in-law's brother) then they should speak to him and make him understand that he is failing in his duty to his mother.
As for your son, he should regard it as opportunity of gaining reward if he assists any member of his family, includuing his mother-in-law. He should try to be big hearted. However, he cannot be expected to do more than can reasonably afford.
And Allah Ta'ala knows best Was salaam Emraan Vawda
