Insurance

As salaamu alaykum

 

A person bought a car and it was financed by the bank. He also took out an insurance for the car because it was a requirement from the bank. After a period of time he met in an accident with the car that was financed by the bank. The accident was not his fault and the insurance company declared the car to be a write off. They paid the bank the remainder of the money he owed to them and he was also paid some money. The car now belonged to the insurance company. After some time the insurance company managed to get hold of the people who were responsible for causing the accident. They were able to make them pay for the damages they caused. Now the insurance wants to give him some money from what they got from the people that were responsible for causing the accident. Will this money be permissible for him to accept? (we know that insurance is not permissible)

Answer

It is not permissible for Zaid to accept the money offered by the insurance company.
