Losing count while performing Tawaaf

Duas Mufti Saheb is well.

Please advise if while making tawaaf one looses count of how many circuits completed. What should one do.

While making tawaaf i lost count between 6th and 7th round. So i made an round extra in case i was at count 6. Is this correct?.
