Marriage

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَركَاتُه

There is a muslim boy that got married to a black girl a year ago and have kids also. The black girl has accepted Islam but now the boy says that her parents want labola and she wants a traditional wedding. Is this acceptable in Islam?
What must he do ? All his earning goes to his wife and he borrows/takes money from his parents because he says he is saving for the labola and wedding. He is totally confused.
Please advise

Answer

Assalaamu alaykum

It is not permissible for him to pay labola or to have a "traditional" wedding.

However, he should sit down with his father in law and explain the situation in a convincing manner. Perhaps if he gives his wife's parents some gifts they will be prepared to give up their demands.
