New born baby

New born baby

As salaam u alaikum
Alhamdulillah my wife has given birth to a baby boy 6 weeks ago.
Theres alot of old wives tales in todays times which tend to override islamic values. I would like some clarity on this topic in sha Allah.
To the best of my knowledge I know that when a child is born. He/she should be given a ghusl bath which is basically a head and body bath. There after the azaan and iqaamah should be given in the right and left ears respectively. Thereafter the circumcision, shaving of the head, naming and Aqeeqa follows.
In regard to confinement. What is the islamic basis on the “forty day” period. From what I know according to the Hanafi Mazhab the minimum is 11 or 25 days depending on circumstances or until the bleeding stops.
so having said that, could you please clarify the following:
what is the significance of the following from an islamic perspective:
1. forty days confinement.
2. burning lobaan between the legs of a woman after she has had her 1st ghusl bath. So that the smoke reaches in or around the vaginal area.
3. the NEW BORN BABY has to perform a namaaz before he/she leaves the house for the 1st time with the assistance of an adult.
The reason I ask all this is because at the moment there is a disagreement between myself and the elders in the family regarding this topic.
Jazakallah khair

Answer

Assalaamu alaykum
Respected Brother in Islam,
None of the acts enumerated by you have any basis in the Shari'ah.
These are customs. Indians have adopted many customs from the hindus. We need to move away from these towards the pure Deen based on Qur’aan and Sunnah.
With wisdom, bring it to your families attention that these acts are not part of Deen.
And Allah Ta'ala knows best
