Ruling on Returns and Exchanges

Ruling on Returns and Exchanges

Hope you’re well, insha-Allah.

What is the ruling on returns/ exchanges?
Is it permissible for home-based businesses to have a clause that states no returns, refunds or exchanges will be done? In the case of clothes not fitting/ goods are damaged etc, what happens?

Recently we purchased a baby goat for my kids as they love animals. The goat, however was really unhappy and constantly crying. Not wanting to be cruel we returned the goat back to the farm. The lady however doesn’t want to refund us as according to her “returns are not normal”. Is this permissible in Islam? The lady is a Muslim woman.

Jazakallah

Dear Sister in Islam,
No seller is obliged to grant a return.
However, there is great virtue in doing so.
