Verbal Intention

Respected Mufti Saheb
A couple tied their Ihraam and performed their 2 rakaahs salaah in their hotel room in Madina and proceeded towards Makkah after having informed their taxi driver that he should stop at the meeqaat in order for them to make their verbal intention. The driver forgot and stopped 500 meters away. Do the couple have to pay damm and if so, how much should they pay?
