Zakaat Query

ألسلام عليكم ورحمةالله و بركاته

Is someone liable to pay zakaat on money that he or she is not accessable to and does not have in one’s possession. For eg. A property was sold during the zakaatable year. The proceeds of sale was put in an investment. However, after 6 months, the money was used as a deposit for another property, that has still not been transferred. Is zakaat payable on that amount?

Assalaamu alaykum

If on the day on which your Zakaat is due, you have already used the money as a deposit on a property, then Zakaat is not due on this particular amount.
